This lens replaces the question “How many people will see this?” with “Could this help one person who needs it?” Before publishing, picture one listener whose life, decision, or problem could be improved by the message. Build for that person, then release the work even if the likely audience is tiny. The mechanism shifts motivation from an external lagging indicator—views or followers—to an immediate standard the creator can control: usefulness. That makes consistency easier during the long period before distribution compounds. Reach and revenue remain possible byproducts, but they no longer determine whether today's work was worthwhile. The lens is especially useful at the beginning of a channel, when small numbers provide almost no reliable signal about eventual value.
Origin
Graziosi explained how he continued publishing through videos with only a handful of views before his social audience grew into the millions.
Core principles
- 01One changed life makes a message worthwhile
- 02Impact is controllable before audience size is
- 03Revenue and reach can follow useful work
- 04Low view counts do not measure message quality
How to run it
- 1
Picture one recipient
Choose a specific person who is facing the problem your message addresses.
Pro tip Use a real question or struggle rather than an abstract demographic.
- 2
Define the useful shift
State how the message could help that person feel better, solve a problem, gain knowledge, or correct course.
- 3
Publish for impact
Release the clearest useful version without waiting for an audience large enough to validate your ego.
Pro tip Ask whether one of two viewers benefiting would make the piece worthwhile.
- 4
Review the right signal
Look first for evidence of usefulness, then use reach and commercial results to improve distribution over time.
Watch out Impact intent does not excuse ignoring channel performance forever.
In the wild
Graziosi suggested imagining a message receiving only two views, with one viewer using it to course-correct their life or solve a problem. Under the impact-first lens, that is meaningful output rather than a failed post.
→ The creator can continue useful work without waiting for large follower counts.
Common mistakes
Letting views define value
Early reach is too small and noisy to decide whether a message can help someone.
Using impact to avoid distribution
A meaningful message still needs deliberate distribution if the goal is to reach or serve more people.
Is it for you?
Best for
It is best for new creators whose motivation is being distorted by follower and view counts.
Not ideal for
It is not ideal as a substitute for eventually measuring whether a commercial channel reaches qualified people.
From the transcript
“what if one person tomorrow if you shared a message had two views and one of the two you got to course-correct their life or…”
“if you start looking at it through that then it becomes about the impact and the byproduct is more revenue and success”
