The Humblebrag Is Still a Brag
A humblebrag disguises self-promotion as weather, generosity, or another socially acceptable story. The audience can usually see the intended status signal, whether it is a luxury car in a snow photo or a charitable act documented for praise.
- The surrounding story provides cover for a status display
- Publicising a good deed can shift its purpose toward applause
- Audiences often recognise the concealed boast
“what it basically is it's somebody that wants to boast or let everybody know of something that they're proud of”
“you could have done that deed without telling the world but what you want is people say you're an amazing person”
