SCALE UP is Mehrabi’s deep coaching sequence for converting external success into fulfillment. It starts with Self-accountability: own who and where you are today. Consciousness follows by examining thoughts, personality, and behavior patterns. Acceptance then establishes present reality as the starting point for change rather than wasting energy resisting what already exists. Love builds self-forgiveness, self-acceptance, and pride. Self-empowerment converts this foundation into goals, belief, visualization, and clear steps. Up means action: execute the plan, check progress, and do the work instead of remaining in theory. Finally, Pay it forward turns personal growth outward through better leadership, relationships, volunteering, or helping another person. The stages form a progression from honest awareness to responsible contribution.
Origin
Mehrabi created SCALE UP after seeing successful executives feel empty and connecting their experience with her own departure from investment banking.
Core principles
- 01Accountability starts change without outsourcing responsibility
- 02Awareness must precede acceptance
- 03Acceptance frees energy for action
- 04Self-love supports sustainable empowerment
- 05Growth carries a responsibility to help others
How to run it
- 1
Self-accountability
Take responsibility for who you are and where you are today. Establish personal agency without denying external facts.
Pro tip Describe the present position plainly before trying to improve it.
Watch out Accountability is not the same as self-blame.
- 2
Consciousness
Become aware of your thinking patterns, behavior patterns, personality, and recurring reactions.
Pro tip Use structured assessment when it provides useful insight.
- 3
Acceptance
Accept yourself and current reality as they are. Use that factual starting point to decide what can and should change.
Pro tip Notice how much energy is spent wishing away an existing fact.
Watch out Acceptance does not mean approving or preserving everything.
- 4
Love
Develop self-love through forgiveness, self-acceptance, pride, and recognition of what you have done well.
Pro tip Review both the people you care for and the people who care for you.
- 5
Self-empowerment
Define the objective, believe it is possible, visualize it, and break it into clear steps.
Pro tip Turn a broad wish into observable goals.
- 6
Up
Move from thought to action. Execute the steps, check progress, and do the uncomfortable work required.
Pro tip Use check-ins to maintain accountability.
Watch out Do not confuse understanding the method with doing it.
- 7
Pay it forward
Use what you learned and changed to help someone else through leadership, family, service, or direct support.
Pro tip Choose a contribution appropriate to your life; it need not be grand.
In the wild
Mehrabi describes accepting her son’s muscular-dystrophy diagnosis as necessary before she could decide how best to support him. Resisting the fact consumed time and energy; acceptance allowed practical action without pretending the situation was desirable.
→ Acceptance became a platform for decisions and care rather than passive resignation.
After working through accountability, awareness, acceptance, self-love, empowerment, and action, an executive applies the resulting growth by becoming a better leader and helping a colleague develop.
→ Personal change creates value beyond the individual.
Common mistakes
Trying to change before accepting
Fighting the existence of present reality consumes the energy needed to respond to it.
Stopping at insight
Awareness and theory do not produce the objective without the Up stage of accountable action.
Keeping growth private
The final stage requires translating personal development into some form of help for others.
Is it for you?
Best for
Successful people who feel unfulfilled and are willing to do sustained, uncomfortable self-work.
Not ideal for
It is not ideal for someone seeking a quick performance hack without reflection, acceptance, or accountability.
